Cathcart and Winn Veterinary Clinic, in Farnham, has received Dog Friendly Clinic accreditation from Dogs Trust, the UK\u2019s largest dog welfare charity and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our popular practice already met a lot of the criteria to become dog friendly due to its first-class facilities, experienced and caring staff, and already being an IFSM Silver Standard Feline Friendly Clinic<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Holly Stone, our dog advocate at Cathcart and Winn, and colleagues also made sure measures were in place to achieve the canine accreditation, including separate dog and cat waiting areas, to reduce stress of pets waiting for their appointments, comfortable kennels with special orthopaedic mats, plus weighing scales in the reception and kennel areas in addition to table-top scales in consult rooms.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Holly said: \u201c<\/span>Being dog-friendly means we have standards in place to make for a less stressful experience for both the dogs and their owners, so clients can rest assure their dog is being handled with the upmost care that our clinic strives to look up to.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Other dog friendly measures at the Farnham practice include the clinical team taking a refresher training on signs of dog behaviour and body language, plus providing an informative handout for anxious dogs and their owners to make their next visit easier and stress-free.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rachel Casey, director of strategy and transformation at Dogs Trust, said: \u201cVeterinary care is an essential part of dogs\u2019 lives, but some find visits to the vets stressful. We are very pleased to collaborate with the BVBA to create the Dog Friendly Clinic scheme to help veterinary practices embed the principles of behavioural medicine into clinic life.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cVet clinics are at the forefront of recognising and preventing the development of problem behaviours in dogs, and this scheme will help them develop the skills and knowledge to optimise the wellbeing of the dogs in their care.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chris Laurence, chair of BVBA said: \u201cEncouraging welfare-friendly treatment of dogs in veterinary practices is one of our primary objectives so every additional practice means many more dogs will benefit.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
